New Robens Goshawk tent adds space for all-weather trail convenience

Answering requests from outdoor adventurers throughout Europe, Robens has introduced an extended version of its highly acclaimed award-winning Goshawk 2 tunnel tent.

Like all tents in the popular 13-model Trail range, the Goshawk 2EX is a practical, full-featured, durable, technical tent that is designed to address the needs of those adventurers taking part in general outdoor pursuits. Accessed by a main front door and a smaller side door, the extended front porch space provided by the Goshawk 2EX is perfect for those requiring room for storage or daily tasks when sitting out inclement weather. This is complemented by a smaller rear porch that offers the choice of two side doors depending on wind and rain direction.

Performance is guaranteed using quality materials, like Robens own HydroTex HD RS 75D ripstop polyester with its 5,000mm hydrostatic head, and quality Yunon #7001 T6 aluminium alloy poles. The flat pole sleeve design used reduces resistance to wind and helps shed rain as well as preventing the build-up of snow. In-house testing shows a correctly pitched Goshawk 2EX is stable in winds up to 123 km/h.

Although large, the tent is easy and quick to pitch thanks to the use of rapid Clamcleat guyline and alloy buckle adjustment, plus colour-coded poles and sleeves. The sleeves are closed one end and use a Fast-Foot Cup for rapid and secure pole placement. Retainers help keep guylines tangle-free when packed away. The transverse inner ensures each occupant has access to their own porch and outer door. It is suspended by new inner clips for reliable security and the latest profile of the large inner doors provide maximum space for entry and sitting side-by-side without stressing fabric. Wall pockets keep vital items close to hand while a gear rope offers a place to dry off smaller items like socks. Large front and rear vents aid air flow to minimise condensation.

The Goshawk 2EX weighs 4.4kg and measures 46cm x 22cm packed. It is supplied with a roll-top storage bag for convenient transportation.

Robens continues to test all its tents using its own in-house facilities and, during the tests, register the maximum (MAX) speed impact a tent was subjected to and the average (AVG) wind speed at which structural instability occurred. Structural instability may show as the collapse of tent, returning to shape when the wind drops, or a broken/deformed pole. At no point did Robens encounter any form of catastrophic failure up to the maximum wind speed and an icon is now used, including on the Robens website, to show the MAX and AVG figures for each tent. The Wind Test figures are: Goshawk 2EX MAX 137km/h and AVG 123km/h
