Robens Wind Test
We have invested heavily in our own wind and rain facilities located at our head office and all our tent designs undergo stringent tests to ensure reliable performance out in the field. We do not have a legal obligation to do this but do so because we believe that it is vital to deliver the highest quality, reliable products possible that perform at their best no matter the conditions.
For a start, we have the fabric tested independently prior to overall environmental assessments. Our laboratories check that its performance meets our demanding requirements and matches the hydrostatic head values we have set in advance. Then, using our in-house test facilities, our tents are subjected to high winds from various sides and angles to test stability in extreme conditions, as well as the reliability of its components.
Our rain machine simulates real rainfall up to severe downpour conditions, to test stitching, construction, and the integrity of materials. During the test periods we register the maximum (MAX) speed impact a tent was subjected to and the average (AVG) wind speed at which structural instability occurred. Structural instability may show as the collapse of tent, returning to shape when the wind drops, or a broken/deformed pole.
At no point did we encounter any form of catastrophic failure up to the maximum wind speed. We have created an icon to show the MAX and AVG figures for each tent. At Robens we won’t let you down.
The determination of the performance of our tents in wind is based on the knowledge and technique available to us at the time of testing. During the test we register the maximum (MAX) speed impact a tent was subjected and the average (AVG) wind speed at which structural instability occurred. We show these figures in the tent’s Wind Test icon.
