Jakob Gjerluff

My name is Jakob Gjerluff Ager, I´m 27 and I´m an outdoor photographer based out of Denmark and Canada.

Why do you love the outdoors?
I grew up spending most of my time outdoors surfing, skiing and sailing. For me the outdoors is the ultimate freedom and escape and a way to totally recharge my batteries.
What do you want to achieve from your adventures?
It really depends of the kind of adventure. Often I head out only to unplug and find inner peace. Other times I pursue a rush or want to push my limits. I both love to share adventures with others or go by myself, but ultimately I´m always looking for a good time.
What is your current adventure?
Currently most of my adventures revolves around surfing and coastal exploration. I have a deep passion for the ocean, probably due to my childhood, and I realize how both my work and sparetime is driven more and more by this again.
What are the highs of your trip?
The highs of my trips is either when a vision or a dream comes to life, or something completely unexpected happens. The first can be seeing a new destination that you dreamed for many years or you’re able to ski a line you have been dreaming of.

What are the lows of your trip?
The lows are when you have to realize that something you were dreaming about cant happen or when everything is against you. I try to not let the lows live for long, as they can often be turned around into something better, if you have the right mindset.

Have you had any funny experiences?
Tons! I´ll write a book some day :)
What is important when you choose a tent and other gear?
For me the most important factors when choosing gear is quality and multifunctional. You can spend more money on outdoor gear than you can ever earn and every hour put into earning more money is an hour less to do what you love. Therefor quality is important, you want something that lasts a long time. You can easily buy a cheap tent, but chances are you will have to buy another one in a year. Mulaifunctionallity is the same tune. Why buy a jacket you can only use for skiing, when you can get one you can also use for climbing, kayaking and going to town.
What do you like about your Robens gear?
Timesless designs and the quality build makes for products that will last long and not go out of fashion.

Your top tip for newbie adventurers?
Don't fixate on the gear you don’t have and all the limitations. I used to find all the excuses, but the most important ingredient for a great adventures is a good attitude and an open mind.
